Galveston Island has been the home to the Island Quilters Guild since 1991.The quilt guild's focus is to provide opportunities for its members to learn and appreciate the art of quilting; as well as, to encourage members to improve their quilting skills and exchange ideas.
Our guild meetings are a variety of speakers, trunk shows, show and tell, block exchanges, community service and lots and lots of friendly quilting energy!
Additionally, our guild engages in many community service projects: Rainbow Kids Camp, Ronald McDonald House, Grand Kid's Festival, Children's Advocacy Center, Shriner's Burn Hospital, Women's Crisis Center, Galveston Police Dept Children Victims Unit, among others.
The guild has informal monthly Sew-Ins at the Bayou Vista Community Center. We get together to sew our own quilt projects. Quilting techniques, designs, and tools of the trade are shared and exchanged during these Sew-Ins. Pop-up classes often happen when some members would like to learn a project from another member.
The guild has two larger quilting retreat. One is held in Galveston every July that is a come and go retreat. The second is a get-away weekend retreat where we stay and quilt into the wee hours of the night at an off site location.
The guild is a membership organization. We are fully supported by our dues and by our auction and donation quilt sales.
Dues are $25 per year
